Proposals For Trio Of Nuisance Properties Must Be Submitted To City By Noon Friday

Sheldon, Iowa — This Friday (November 8th) is the deadline for the City of Sheldon to receive proposals for the demolition of a trio of nuisance properties around town.

When the City Council met September 18th, they authorized the request for proposals for redevelopment of three locations where dilapidated buildings are located.  Those locations are the Sunset Motel on Business 60 South, DJ’s Can Redemption on Highway 18 West and the residential property at 1023 Garfield Avenue. Under state law old buildings must be taken to a landfill where they first must be inspected for hazardous material.  Separate bids will be required for each location and the best overall proposals will be accepted for consideration by the council.

City Manager Sam Kooiker tells KIWA that proposals must be submitted by noon this Friday to be eligible for consideration by the city council. He says the council will inspect the proposals at their November 20th regular meeting. He says that, unlike sealed bids, the council will have the opportunity to accept whichever proposals they want, or to select none at all.
