RAGBRAI Departs Sergeant Bluff, Headed East

Sergeant Bluff, Iowa — Several thousand bicycle riders, their families and support staff have departed Sergeant Bluff, which is just south of Sioux City, en route to Ida Grove, for this year’s RAGBRAI — the annual great bike ride across Iowa. The trek is just over 53 miles, and the climb is over 2500 feet.

Officials say it’s always a challenge finding housing or camping for nearly 28 thousand people. Many people open their homes and/or lawns for guests and/or tent campers. Law enforcement officers from around the state filter into the participating communities to help keep everyone safe.

Motorists are asked to avoid the bicycle route, as it is very congested.

Pocahontas, Emmetsburg, Mason City, Charles City, and West Union are the rest of the overnight stops along this year’s RAGBRAI route. The 454-mile cross-state ride ends in Lansing on July 30th.
