Railroad Repairs North Of Perkins To Cause Emergency Hwy 18 Closure

Hull, Iowa — Railroad repairs just west of Highway 75 on Highway 18 will cause Highway 18 to be closed for a few days starting on Monday.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, track repairs to the BNSF Railroad Company’s overpass on U.S. 18, west of Hull, will require an emergency road closure on U.S. 18 beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, August 24, until 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office.

While the road is closed, traffic will be detoured through Carmel on Sioux County roads K-42 and B-30. B-30 is 360th Street, located five miles south of the closed road. K-42 is Garfield Avenue, located three miles west of the closure. The two county roads meet in the village of Carmel.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
