Dr. Becker Says Receiving Your Flu Shot Prevents Others From Getting Sick Too

Sheldon, Iowa — Every year an average of 36 million Americans get sick with influenza. That’s about 1 in 10 people. And about half of Americans get a flu shot every year, according to the CDC. Medical providers and pharmacies in northwest Iowa are gearing up to offer flu shots at this time.

Physician Dr. Ryan Becker at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center tells us the reason they want people to get flu shots.

He says even though you might survive a bout with the flu, others around you might not be so lucky — so they encourage you to get a flu shot to help others as well.

According to Dr. Becker, there are many different ways you can get the flu vaccine.

Becker tells us that for administrative and record-keeping reasons, they’d prefer if you get an appointment if you want to get your shot at the flu shot clinics, but it’s not absolutely necessary. He says you can just show up too. The number to call for an appointment is (712) 324-5356.

Sanford Sheldon is doing two types of flu shot clinics — drive-through clinics and walk-in clinics. The drive-through clinics will be

· Saturday, Sept. 24 from 7:30 a.m. – noon
· Monday, Sept. 26 from 3:30 – 7 p.m.
· Monday, Oct. 3 from 3:30 – 7 p.m. and
· Saturday, Oct. 8 from 7:30 a.m. – noon

And the walk-in clinics will be
· Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 5 – 8 p.m. and
