Sheldon, Iowa — The ribbon was cut Friday morning on the new location of a seasonal Sheldon business.
Community business and local government representatives were on hand for the ribbon cutting at the new location of It’s Lit Fireworks, which is located a block south of Highway 18 on Business 60, in a building that has been vacant since Casey’s built their new convenience store at the 18 & Business 60 junction.
Sheldon Development Director Curt Strouth congratulated Joel Bousema, one of the owners of It’s Lit Fireworks on, what he called, the phenomenal location of the business.
Sheldon City Councilman Greg Geels noted that it was good to see the building utilized again.
Sheldon Ambassadors Club President Skip Tanner presented Bousema with a plaque containing a section of the ribbon from this morning’s ribbon cutting.
Bousema talked about where the idea for a fireworks store originated.
Bousema says he’s happy they were able to fill an empty Sheldon business building.
He says that, initially, the hours for It’s Lit Fireworks will be Wednesday through Friday from 4:00 until 9:00 pm, and Saturday from noon until 9:00 pm, but will be expanded as the July 4th holiday approaches.
With the permanent structure from which to sell fireworks, the Iowa Code would allow It’s Lit to market fireworks during the New Year’s holiday season, as well. Bousema tells KIWA that he and his partner have made no decision on whether they will take advantage of the winter sales period.
