Rock Rapids, Iowa — Pools in Iowa are finally open again after being closed due to COVID-19. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds re-opened them last week. But some northwest Iowans feel that they can’t afford to cool off with a dip in the pool. One area foundation wants to change that.
The Lyon County Riverboat Foundation Board of directors has decided to give pools in Lyon County (in George, Inwood, and Rock Rapids) $1000 each to help low-income patrons pay for 2020 swim passes.
Foundation officials tell us the foundation has done this the past five seasons. They say they believe this donation will help with concerns about being able to pay for family swim passes.
The foundation says they have told each pool location to handle the distribution of monies as it sees fit.
The Lyon County Riverboat Foundation is the non-profit license holder for Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort near Larchwood.
