Rock Rapids Heritage Days Is This Weekend

Rock Rapids, Iowa — It’s summer festival season, and the one in Rock Rapids is one of the ones happening this weekend.

Heritage Days includes a Medallion Hunt, which starts on Thursday.

Also on Thursday, there is a kickoff taco supper, which includes a pie auction and the Citizen Of The Year ceremony.

On Friday, there is a Dad’s Waffle Breakfast, a community luncheon put on by the United Methodist Church, a burn out contest, a production of The Lion King Jr by the River Valley Players Junior, the races at Rapid Speedway, and a cruise night.

Saturday’s activities kick off with a road race. Then there’s a new event — a breakfast put on by Rock Rapids day care — the Rock Rapids Kids Club. There will, of course, be the traditional parade. There will also be pedal car races.

An activity that used to take place elsewhere on the summer calendar is moving to Heritage Days. Kids will have the opportunity to get up close to trucks, emergency vehicles, farm implements and more at Touch A Truck.

There will also be inflatables and more for the kids as well as live entertainment a Bean Bag/Cornhole Tournament, fire department water wars, the All-School Reunion, figure-8 races and a street dance all on Saturday.

To wrap things up on Sunday, there will be a community worship service at Island Park near the swimming pool, or at First Reformed Church in case of inclement weather, and there will also be a soap box derby on Sunday afternoon.
