Rock Valley, Hull Fire Departments Respond To Fire Call In Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa– The Rock Valley and Hull Fire Departments were called out to the report of a fire on Friday, October 5, 2018, in Rock Valley.

According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, about 8:20 a.m., there was a fire at Total Component Solutions at 2080 Tenth Street in Rock Valley. He says a steel chip crusher machine got jammed with a chunk of steel and so workers were attempting to free the chunk with either a torch or a grinder when the oil-soaked steel chips started on fire. He says workers tried to put out the fire with fire extinguishers, but it kept flaring up again, and that’s when the fire departments were paged. He says they were eventually able to put the fire out with extinguishers.

The Hull Fire Department is always paged with the Rock Valley Fire Department to structure fire-type calls in Rock Valley, so they also responded.

Eshuis says firefighters assisted by ventilating the building, and that no injuries were reported.

Chief Eshuis reports that there was minimal smoke damage, and the machine was fine.

He says the approximately 25 firefighters who responded were on scene for about 30 minutes.
