Rock Valley, Iowa — Like voters in a number of other school districts in Iowa, voters in the Rock Valley Community School District are voting on two school funding-related issues when they vote this Tuesday.
Rock Valley Community School District Superintendent Chad Janzen tells us about it.
He tells us about the second question, which deals with SAVE, or Secure an Advanced Vision for Education, also known as the penny sales tax.
He says neither issue would be an additional tax. PPEL (the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy) is a property tax, and SAVE is sales tax. Just to reiterate, the PPEL question asks if the current tax should continue, and the SAVE question asks what purposes should be allowable for the revenue from a current tax.
Janzen wants to make sure people are aware that yes, a building project is being planned in Rock Valley, but neither of the questions being asked this Tuesday has anything to do with the school bond issue, which will be put to voters in the future for the district’s building project. Two public meetings are coming up to gather community input for THAT project on November 15th and 16th.
