Safety Night To Focus On Teen Sex Trafficking, Online Safety

Hull, Iowa — A parent and community safety information night is scheduled for this Monday night, February 9th, in Hull.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tells us part of the evening will be a viewing of the Gridshock documentary about sex trafficking in Iowa.

Law enforcement officers tell us the video outlines cases that have happened in Iowa, and it brings to the forefront just how common human trafficking is. They tell us it’s aimed at parents and young adults. They suggest that parents watch it with their kids or teens so that it can be discussed. The video documentary goes into why victims can’t just get out of it, how they got into it, and why they didn’t notice what was happening. They tell us it can happen in several ways, from being snatched from a store to trafficking happening through someone you trust — even a school teacher or a college professor.

There will also be a panel discussion about teenage online safety.

Childcare will be provided.

It’ll be at the Boyden-Hull Junior and Senior High School Auditorium at 801 1st Street in Hull this Monday night, starting at 7:00 p.m.

The event is free and open to all parents, guardians, educators, community members, and anyone concerned about teen safety online.
