Sheldon, Iowa — The investigation into the death of a Sheldon man, who was found unresponsive on a city street on April 7th, is continuing, according to officials.
Shortly after 2:30 am Saturday, April 7th, emergency crews were called to South 3rd Avenue, near the Sheldon Post Office, for a man in the middle of the street. When police arrived on the scene they found an unresponsive man, and began an attempt to resuscitate the individual. Officers’ efforts were ultimately unsuccessful, and 32-year old Joshua Andrew Rook, of Sheldon, was pronounced dead at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center, where he had been taken by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.
The Sheldon Police Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the O’Brien County Attorney’s Office are cooperating in the investigation.
Authorities say Rook’s body was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause, and manner, of his death.
KIWA contacted O’Brien County Attorney Micah Schreurs on Wednesday (April 25th), to ask about the status of the investigation. Schreurs told KIWA that he had been informed earlier in the day that the final autopsy report may not be available for several more weeks.
