Sheldon, Iowa — Eighty students from nineteen area schools, along with various home-school families, were on hand at Northwest Iowa Community College Tuesday, taking art in a healthcare exploration and simulation event.
Kevin Miller is Emergency Services Education Coordinator at NCC, and he tells us where the idea for NCC’s Scrubs Camp originated.
Part of the day included an Emergency Care Simulation, performed by NCC healthcare instructors, alongside the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team (SCAT), in which all of the healthcare programs worked together for a common goal of saving the patient — just like in a real emergency situation.
The simulation involved a mock car crash, and ran from the response to the scene, up through The patient’s medical treatment in the hospital. Some photos of the simulation can be viewed below.
Area schools (along with homeschools) participating:
Sioux Center, Rock Valley, Boyden Hull, Western Christian, Sheldon Middle School, Sheldon High School, HMS, Trinity Christian, Estherville Lincoln Central, GLR, MMCRU, Netherlands Reformed, Unity Christian, Various Homeschool families, Le Mars, Spencer, Central Lyon, Sioux City Vibe Academy and Gehlen Catholic.
