Second Annual “OC Pride” Event Is This Weekend In Orange City

Orange City, Iowa — It’s time for the second annual OC Pride event in what is arguably the most conservative county in northwest Iowa, perhaps the state.

Co-founder of the event, Mike Goll, tells us how it all got started.

Friday night’s events include a drag show and a performance by the Des Moines Gay Men’s Choir.

Saturday there will be yoga, an information fair with health and other resources available, family activities, “stories from the queer community,” and a dance at the Town Square Coffee House. Goll tells us about Sunday’s activities.

He says the Pride event is for the queer community, but others are welcome.

We asked Gall why they would try to gain acceptance in such a conservative town and area. He says it really comes down to — this is where he and the other organizers live.
