Hull, Iowa — “Vaping” or using “e-cigarettes” is rising in popularity. But not only is it illegal for those under the age of 18, it may harm your health as well. Community Health Partners of Sioux County in conjunction with the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is planning two seminars on the topic of vaping.
Western Christian High School in Hull has invited Shay Davis, the Tobacco Prevention Coordinator for Community Health Partners of Sioux County and Teri Bos, a nurse with Community Health Partners of Sioux County, to speak on the topic of vaping and the dangers associated with it. He tells us their goal.
Davis says that no matter where it comes from, nicotine and kids do not mix.
Davis says the unknown is “scary” with these products. He says not only were they only recently regulated, but they haven’t been on the market long enough for long-term effects to be known. He says that since they were only recently regulated by the FDA, no one really knows what’s in the product that’s on the shelves now. He invites people to the seminars with an open mind, and he says it might be surprising what you learn.
School Resource Officer, Waylon Pollema, will talk about Iowa law as it pertains to vaping as well.
He says when it comes to the law, it’s really no different from smoking if you’re under 18. It’s not allowed.
The two seminars will take place on Monday, April 3, at 9:00 a.m., and 7:00 p.m. The 9:00 a.m. presentation is a student presentation and the 7:00 p.m. is a parent presentation, but anyone who wishes to attend is welcome to attend either session.
The seminars will both take place in the new Western Christian High School Event Center.
