Northwest Iowa — Some severe weather rumbled through northwest Iowa Tuesday evening.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued by the National Weather Service for locations in and close to our area. Meteorologist Lance Vanden Boogart with the Sioux Falls office tells us about it.
(As said, ” We saw a lot of strong thunderstorms with heavy downpours and gusty winds. It looks like they’re in Sheldon, The max gust is around forty-three miles per hour, but we did have several reports of an excess of fifty to even sixty miles per hour in the area, not necessarily right there in Sheldon itself, but a few storms were severe and a few severe thunderstorm warnings went out last evening.”)
One of the biggest issues with this system was the wind.
(As said, “We did have few reports, this would be west of you guys, of some semi tractor trailer blown over, on their side, from the strong winds. We also had some strong northwest winds that were just coming in behind this weather system, so not even necessarily associated with the thunderstorms. So its kind of a combination of strong winds from the thunderstorms and some strong winds from larger scale weather systems.”)
Vanden Boogart gives us the forecast for the next several days.
(As said, “It looks pretty quiet over the next several days, through the weekend we look fairly dry. Once we get to the end of the weekend, temperatures do start warming up notably, and the beginning of next week we could get some additional rain fall, but not a lot as far as extremely active weather compared to what we’ve had the last several days, so it’ll be a nice break from the business that we’ve had in the early part of this week.”
