Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council has scheduled two budget sessions this week. They will be held Tuesday, January 21st and Wednesday, January 22nd at 4:30 p.m. both days.
City Manager Sam Kooiker says that last year the City started off $233,252 in the red, but this year they are starting off $84,242 on the positive side. He is expecting an increase of less than one percent in property tax revenue with a modest decrease in the tax levy. There is a water rate increase in the budget based on a study commissioned in 2017. A copy of the budget is available for review at the City Hall.
In other City news, on January 14th, the representative of the employees’ union presented their “initial bargaining position” to the City. The City of Sheldon will respond with their “initial bargaining position” in the 3rd-floor conference room of the Sheldon Community Services Center on Tuesday, January 21 at 1:30 p.m. The union is asking for a wage increase of three percent per year for public works and 3.5 percent for police, along with other items of concern.
