Sheldon City Council To Discuss Grant For HC Lane Buildings, Parking Issue At Former Bethel Property

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will meet in regular session at 4:30 p.m. this Wednesday, May 15th at the City Hall Council Chambers on 9th Street in Sheldon.

On their consent agenda — which is normally approved with one motion — are these items: an alcohol license for the Cobblestone Inn, the confirmation of the mayor’s appointment of Jackson Kleinwolterink to the Parks & Recreation Board, a pay estimate for the water tower project, a resolution approving the addition of SCAT Training Officer duties for Lori Watson, and a resolution approving Engagement Agreement with Ahlers & Cooney, P.C. regarding Western Ave bonding.

Under new business, are these items: the possible rezoning of 1721 S 5th Ave to Suburban Residential for Austin & Chelsea Verdoorn; the Sheldon Upper Story Project Application for 324 & 326 9th Street —
(This is to seek 2024 State/Federal grant funding for the former Wolff’s Department Store in the corner two addresses of the H.C. Lane buildings. The proposed results would be 5 new upper-story dwelling units. Charlotte Kunkel and White House properties plan on four apartments with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and one apartment with one bedroom and one bathroom.); the consideration of a TIF application for Maintainer’s expansion, including a public hearing; the consideration of a request from the developer of the former Bethel lot – Justin Postma. (The issue has to do with the incompatibility of angle parking and garage access.); a Budget Amendment for FY 23-24 — including a public hearing; and the first Readings of Ordinances on Water and Sewer Rates for Fiscal Year 24-25.

The meeting will be in the council chambers on the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center in downtown Sheldon.
