Sheldon, Iowa — Each year the Sheldon Ministerial Association, along with Bubbles in Sheldon, join forces for their annual Coats-For-Kids drive. The 2020 drive has had its challenges, to say the least.
The drive began later than normal this year due to adjustments that needed to be made in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Residents began dropping off gently used coats at Bubbles on October 19th.
On November 2nd, a fire broke out at Bubbles, damaging the donated outerwear to the point that First Reformed Pastor Paul Van Maaren of the Sheldon Ministerial Association told KIWA the donated coats had all been so damaged by fire or smoke that they were unusable for the Coats-For-Kids drive. As a result, the Ministerial Association partnered with Love INC of Sheldon and local residents began dropping off coats at the Love INC office.
Despite the setbacks this year, the Sheldon Coats-For-Kids distribution will be held this Saturday, November 14th at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Organizers tell us that masks WILL be required during the distribution. Again, the Sheldon Coats-For-Kids distribution will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 Saturday morning at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, which is located at 601 Union Avenue…one block west of the Sheldon Outdoor Aquatic Center.
