Sheldon, Iowa — The Jay Shelp Community Theater group is going to present a musical at the Crossroads Pavilion this week.
Kathy Arnold, who’s one of the people putting on the show, tells us about it.
(as said) “We’re doing the show White Christmas. We were planning on doing it at Christmas time. But of course, with COVID, we decided to cancel that and try it for Valentine’s weekend because we kind of felt it would be a fun thing for people to do… people want to get out and see some things and do some things. So we’ll be doing this play Thursday, February 11th through Sunday, February 14th, and two of those nights Friday and Saturday will be a dinner theater and the other two will be just shows.”
According to Sheldon Crossroads Pavilion Manager Katricia Meendering, they needed to get the number to the caterer, so they are no longer selling dinner tickets, but people can buy tickets for the show only for any performance, including dinner-theater nights, they just won’t get the meal. She says the tickets will be available at the door, and for the nights when there is dinner, if you don’t have a dinner ticket, you should come about 6:30 or 7 p.m.
Arnold says in some ways it is similar to the TV movie of the same name.
(as said) “It’s a lot like the show that you see on TV or the movies “White Christmas” with Bing Crosby… Two famous singers joining a sister act to perform a Christmas show in Vermont and they’re trying to save their General’s… from World War II… his inn. It’s a little bit different than the one that we are familiar with and the fact that some of the songs are different and some of the songs are sung by different people. There’s a little less dancing in our production because of which we live in Sheldon, Iowa, you know our dance people are a little limited but it’s basically kind of the same story.”
Arnold highlights some of the actors in the production.
(as said) “The two main guys who you would know if you’ve seen the movie as Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby are Brian Tutje and Brian Kleve, and the two main ladies are Chrissy Moyer and Cindy Moeller. Some of these you’ve seen before if you’ve come to some of our productions and some are new and that’s the same thing with the rest of the cast some familiar faces some new faces. Wayne Burnette is the director and Barb Stuit is the orchestra director.”
She tells us she’s the costume person and she’s also in the show. Arnold says the show will be at the Sheldon Crossroads Pavilion on Sheldon’s east side.
(as said) “There will be social distancing and they can call the Pavilion if they have questions about tickets or want to know more information.”
Arnold says the seats will be socially distanced, and whatever other COVID requirements the pavilion has had in place will be in force. Again, call the pavilion for tickets and more information at (712) 631-4336.
