Sheldon Council To Discuss Regional Housing Trust Program

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets this Wednesday (September 2nd), they’ll be asked to continue participation in the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust. The trust provides financial assistance to moderate income homeowners to make necessary home repairs. There are eight counties involved in the program, including eight O’Brien County cities that participate. The updated request for Sheldon’s participation in fiscal year 20-21 is $2,444.24. This assistance is in the form of forgivable grants or two-percent loans, depending on the homeowners income. Since the inception of the fund, ten homeowners in Sheldon have benefited from the program.

In other business, the council will address a resolution authorizing a one-year extension of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the city employee’s union, consider the appointment of Dean Fjeld to the Planning and Zoning Commission and hear an update from Premier Communications. Premier has a franchise agreement with the City of Sheldon, and provide cable TV, landline telephone and broadband internet service to the community.
