UPDATE: Sheldon Emergency Crews Called To Country Club

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man is dead following an accident at the Sheldon Golf & Country Club Monday morning.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call from the country club, reporting that an employee was trapped in the river under a piece of equipment.  Sheldon Police, ambulance, and fire crews, along with an O’Brien County Sheriff’s Deputy, were dispatched to the call.

Authorities say that responders on the scene located a John Deere riding lawn mower laying on its side in the river with a male worker, who authorities identify as 66-year old Dean Seivert of Sheldon, pinned under the machine.  According to authorities, a country club employee had located Seivert, and was in the water attempting to hold his head out of the water.  First responders reportedly freed Seivert from the river, and he was transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.  Authorities say resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and Seivert passed away.
