Sheldon High School Summer Theatre: “A Season Of Quarantine”

Sheldon,Iowa– The show goes on for the Sheldon High School Summer Theater program. They can’t bring us their typical performances due to COVID 19, however, they have been working hard to deliver some entertainment this summer.

The Summer Theater troupe has been working hard to produce a full fledged movie. “A Season of Quarantine”, set to release this Saturday July 18th, for the viewing enjoyment of Sheldon residents. Summer Theater Advisor Lissa Lane Johnson tells us why they decided to make a movie.

(as said) “Well the process was we wanted everybody to be safe,” says Johnson. “and waiting around to see if we could do live theater was just taking a really long time, and so we decided to do a movie so that we could have a season, even though it’s just one movie.”

Also with us were volunteer directors to help assist Johnson. Logan Merley, Libby Ven Huizen, Lauren Davis, and Madeline Gude, are all volunteering to lend a helping hand. Logan Merley gives insight on what to expect from the production.

(as said) Merley says“so the movie is about theater in quarantine, or students living through the quarantine so we gave it pretty open books to the students, this is all basically student done and they came up with their own scripting ideas, their own plot lines, which they’re very simple most of these are just a couple seconds long, we have a couple of them that are more substantial, but they’re about topics that they have encountered in quarantine.”

Libby Ven Huizen speaks about the difference between having students participate, and what they’re doing this year.

(as said) “Wrangling students into it has been different than past years because we didn’t have a great way to get the word out to the entire student body like we usually would that summer theater auditions are coming. So we sent out an email to students, like this past year, who were involved in the musical, or speech, Large group or individual, and said ‘hey this is what we’re doing if you want to be a part of it'”.

Johnson hopes that word reaches far and wide throughout the Sheldon community.

(as said) “We hope that our usual audience will find out about this, we know not everybody will, and we hope that maybe who don’t come to shows will be curious and watch what our kids have done, because I know they are very passionate about this. It’s been a very difficult year for some people, because they were looking forward to this and then it didn’t happen so we just hope we get some interest and people want to see it and support our program.”

The movie will be uploaded to YouTube on Saturday July 18th to the Summer Theater YouTube channel. Click here to watch it now!
