Sheldon Mayor’s Chair, Two Council Seats & Two School Board Seats Will Be On November Ballot

Sheldon, Iowa — Elections for Mayor, City Council and School Board members will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd.

For the City of Sheldon there are three city government seats up for grabs. Sheldon Mayor Greg Geels’ term expires at the end of this year, so that position will be up for election. Also on the ballot, the At-Large council position held by Tom Eggers, whose term also ends December 31st. Newly-elected 2nd Ward Councilman Ken Snyder’s term also ends at the end of this year, so the 2nd Ward seat will be on the ballot, as well. Snyder was elected earlier this year to fill the unexpired term of former Councilman Shawn Broesder, who resigned the position last spring. The 2nd Ward comprises a large part of northern Sheldon.

Candidates for the Mayor’s position and the At-Large seat can live anywhere in the City of Sheldon, while those seeking the 2nd Ward seat must live in the 2nd Ward.

To get your name on the ballot for the Mayor’s post or either of the City Council positions, you can pick up nominating petitions now at the Sheldon City Office. The completed petitions must be returned to the Sheldon City Office by 5:00 pm on Thursday, September 16th.

The Sheldon Community School District Board of Education will have two seats on the November ballot. At-Large Board Member Lori Richards position expires this year and will be on the ballot. District One Board Member Susan Rensink’s term on the Board also expires this year, so that seat will be on the ballot, as well. The school district’s District 1 encompasses a large part of eastern Sheldon.

Persons running for the At-Large position can live anywhere in the Sheldon School District, but those seeking the 1st District seat must live in that district.

Nominating positions for either position can be picked up at the Sheldon High School, however these petitions must be returned to the High School by 5:00 pm Thursday, September 16th.
