Sheldon, Iowa & Sheldon, Texas — Even though the last truckload of relief items has been delivered to Sheldon TX, Sheldon IA residents are still finding ways to give to help residents of the Texas community try to return to normal in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
The Sheldon Middle School Band has “adopted” the middle school bands in the Sheldon Independent School District in Texas as “sister bands”, and are collecting items needed by their Texas counterparts. Sheldon Middle School Band Director Jeana Larson explains.
Larson tells KIWA that she reached out to a Sioux City music store that stepped up to help.
Larson and her student musicians plan to ship the items they collect to the middle schools in Sheldon, Texas within the next week or so, but she says the relationship between the two communities won’t end there. She says plans are in the works to remain connected to the Texas schools, and they are even talking about setting up Skype broadcasts so that each school’s student musicians can attend the concert performances of their counterparts, via the internet, from 1-thousand miles away.
