Iowa — Some area fire departments have been awarded Volunteer Fire Assistance grants through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Nearly $350,000 in 50 percent cost-share grants were awarded to 105 rural fire departments throughout Iowa to assist with wildfire suppression, personal protective equipment, and communications equipment.
In our area, grants were given to the Sheldon and Inwood fire departments. Other nearby departments receiving grants were Cherokee, Cleghorn, Fostoria, and Peterson.
The grants are made possible through Iowa DNR Forestry in cooperation with the U.S Forest Service.
Thank you to fellow Community First Broadcasting Station KUOO in Spirit Lake for their assistance
