Sheldon, Iowa — At Wednesday’s Sheldon City Council meeting, Police Chief Lyle Bolkema told the council that his officers are going to be tougher in enforcing the city’s Fireworks Ordinance this year than they have in the past.
Bolkema says last year they received tons of complaints about fireworks in town.
He says Sheldon officers have been awfully nice in the past, writing very few citations for fireworks infractions.
Chief Bolkema tells us about the variety of fireworks-related complaints Sheldon Police respond to.
He reminds us when consumer grade fireworks may be legally used in Sheldon.
He listed some other requirements for use of fireworks in Sheldon, as well.
Bolkema says Sheldon police officers aren’t fun-haters, but they do want you to be considerate of others when you use fireworks, and be extremely careful when using them. He says that while they may be consumer grade fireworks they still have the ability to take fingers and cause other serious injuries. That, he says, will ruin your celebration even quicker than a citation from police.
