Sheldon School Board Approves Purchase Of Computers For Students

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community Schools Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting Wednesday night, and approved a student technology purchase.

That purchase consisted of 555 Chromebook notebook computers from Sterling Computers at a total cost of just over $165,000.  It was explained to the Board that the District’s computer rotation plan called for the purchase of 195 new student devices for the 2021-22 school year.  However, due to COVID, they are still waiting on last year’s order of 360 student devices.   That computer order had been delayed multiple times, and the District  has now received word that the order has been canceled due to the company’s inability to fill orders.  Since that order canceled, the District still needs last year’s order of 360 devices plus an additional 195 devices, totaling 555.

In other action, the Board approved the Collective Bargaining Agreement and issued contracts for the 2021-2022 school year for Certified Staff, and approved Salary Agreements and issued contracts to Classified Staff and Administrative Staff.

The Board accepted a pair of resignations at Wednesday’s meeting. Juanita Rodger resigned from her position as a Teacher Associate at East Elementary, a position she’s held for more than 19-years. Rodger said she and her husband are moving to another part of the state. Toby Maggert submitted his resignation as 8th Grade Football Coach. The Board accepted Maggert’s resignation contingent on finding a suitable replacement for him.

The school board also set their next regular meeting, April 14th at 5:00 pm as the date and time for a Public Hearing on the Fiscal Year 2022 budget.
