Sheldon Senior Among Four To Receive NW Iowa League Of Cities Scholarship

Northwest Iowa — Four northwest Iowa high school seniors, including one from Sheldon, will be receiving $1,000 scholarships from the Northwest Iowa League of Cities.

The winners of this year’s scholarships are Brooklyn Grady of Sheldon Community High School, whose goal is Social Work; Jaime Hunt of Gehlen Catholic High School, whose goal is Criminal Justice; Derek Anderson of Hinton Community High School, whose goal is Pre-Law and Psychology; and Derek Huss of Spencer Community High School, whose goal is  Finance.

The Northwest Iowa League of Cities High School Senior Scholarship Program is open annually to any high school senior residing in a community that is a member of the Northwest Iowa League of Cities and is pursuing post-secondary education or training in a field that may result in employment by city government (examples: public administration, urban planning, water/wastewater, recreation, library science, museum curator, police public safety, code enforcement, planner, public engineer, surveyor, city attorney, etc.), according to the organization.

All funds used for the scholarship program are generated through private and commercial fundraising and are not tax supported. The Northwest Iowa League of Cities is an organization founded by community leaders in a 27-county area. Members work together to improve the effective and efficient operation of public services. The organization provides on-going education and networking opportunities – sharing experiences leading to regional success.
