Sheldon Traffic Light Project At 34th Avenue Highway 18 Intersection Approved By DOT

Sheldon, Iowa — The Iowa DOT has approved a traffic light project in Sheldon in hopes of making a very busy intersection a lot safer for motorists.

Todd Uhl, the Public Works Director in Sheldon, tells KIWA he and his team have been working on getting this project started for a few years, but it just recently got approval from the Iowa DOT. According to Uhl, Dave Hulstein Excavating out of Edgerton, Minnesota was the low bidder on the project. He tells us what the project will add to the intersection of 34th Avenue and Highway 18.

Uhl says this intersection has the potential for very bad accidents because of the speed limit on Highway 18, and people lose their patience when they are trying to turn left.

Uhl says there has not been a pre-construction meeting yet, but he is hoping it will happen soon. According to the contract between the City of Sheldon and Dave Hulstein Excavating, construction must begin by the end of July. Uhl says the road crew will have 50 working days to finish.

Uhl adds what he thinks the traffic light project means to the City of Sheldon.

Until this project is finished, Uhl wants the residents of Sheldon to remember to be patient at that intersection. The City is working on a solution.
