Sheldon Unity Meal Receives Donation

Sheldon, Iowa — The ministry that provides the monthly Sheldon Area Unity Meal has received a generous donation from two area ag-related businesses.

According to a press release from the Farmers Coop Society, the coop has teamed up with Land O’ Lakes to present a $6-thousand gift to Honor God Ministries, Inc. in Sheldon to be used for the Sheldon Area Unity Meal. The Sheldon Area Unity Meal is a free monthly meal served on the third Monday of each month at Living Water Community Church, in Sheldon.

According to the press release, Farmers Coop Society Swine Production Specialist Kyle Heynen is involved with the Sheldon Unity Meal, and put in the initial donation request to FCS after seeing a need for sourcing meat. The release says Land O’Lakes was excited about the opportunity to match the funds from FCS, and donate to the program. According to the release, Perdue Foods of Sioux Center also helps to provide pork trimming on a monthly basis and those trimmings are then taken to Babcock Locker in Alton where it is ground, packaged and inspected by the USDA.

Sheldon Area Unity Meal serves an average of 200-250 people each month, with over 12 churches and businesses coming together to sponsor the events. The Sheldon Area Unity Meal was started in part by Barb Hibma along with other members of the community in 2014. Hibma and her husband, Gary, lead Honor God Ministries, Inc. of Sheldon.
