Sheldon, Iowa — History is scheduled to be made Thursday evening for both the Sheldon and Sibley-Ocheyedan High Schools.

The historic event will be the first high school soccer game for each school’s athletes. The Sheldon/Sibley-Ocheyedan soccer teams will face their first-ever soccer challenge against West Sioux.

Sheldon High School Activities Director Eric Maassen tells KIWA how the new soccer program came about.

Sheldon is partnering with the Sibley-Ocheyedan district for the soccer program, and Maassen talks about how that collaboration came about.

He says the first soccer game had been scheduled for this past Thursday, March 27rh at Western Christian, but that meeting had to be postponed.

Maassen says Thursday night’s inaugural soccer games will find the Sheldon/Sibley-Ocheyedan girls JV and varsity playing at West Sioux, while the boys will entertain West Sioux at the Athletic Complex north of the Orab football field.
