Sibley, Iowa — On May 5, 1984, President Ronald Reagan created National Correctional Officers Week, and it’s been celebrated every year since, on the first full week of May.
Osceola County Sheriff Doug Weber says it’s a career that many do not think about, however, it is vitally important to the Sheriff’s Office, the community and the Criminal Justice Field. He says they join with all the other law enforcement entities in the state to honor correctional officers.
Weber says their jail is kind of unusual.
Sheriff Weber says they appreciate all that their correctional officers do, and they honor them and all other corrections officers this week.
