Sibley-Ocheyedan Speech Teacher/Coach Gets National Honor

Sibley, Iowa — A Sibley-Ocheyedan speech coach has received a national honor.

Sheldon native Craig Ihnen is the Executive Director of the Iowa High School Speech Association. Ihnen says Mr. BJ Schuller of Sibley-Ocheyedan High School has been selected by the National Federation of State High School Associations to receive the National Federation State Speech, Debate, and Theatre Award. There are only 12 recipients of the State award in the United States this year. He tells us Mr. Schuller was selected as a State recipient from recommendations made this past fall from the Iowa High School Speech Association.

Ihnen says Schuller’s influence goes far beyond northwest Iowa.

Calling him “an incredible resource for the entire state of Iowa,” Ihnen says Schuller’s work has helped make the Iowa High School Speech Association what it is today.
