Sibley, Iowa — The Sibley Public Library will turn 100 years old this year. The original part of the building was a Carnegie library. A Carnegie library is a library built with money donated by Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. A total of 2,509 Carnegie libraries were built between 1883 and 1929.
Sibley Public Library Director Mary Earll gives us some history and tells us about the celebration.
She says another donor also helped with the library.
Earll says later this month they’ll have a centennial garden kick-off.
She says there are other fun tie-ins going on as well.
