Lyon County, Iowa — Yesterday we reminded you about the IRS scams that rear their ugly head this time of year. Now it’s happened again, this time in Lyon County.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to be on high alert for scams. The Sheriff’s Office tells us they are currently investigating a case in which the scammer identified themselves as an IRS agent. This scammer then reportedly called the victim using a spoof caller ID app, so that it appeared as if the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was calling them.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office wants you to be aware that local law enforcement does NOT contact people for the IRS. If you are in question about whether a call is legitimate, the Sheriff’s Office advises that you please contact your local law enforcement.
