Sioux Center, Iowa — After several years of waiting and planning, the light can be seen at the end of the tunnel for the Sioux Center Highway 75 project.
Sioux Center City Manager Scott Wynja tells us about it.
But, he says with inflation and price increases, things have changed a little.
Wynja says they think that financially, that’s the wisest move at this point.
While the construction on the highway itself won’t get underway until next spring, Wynja says you will see some related construction this fall in Sioux Center. The first one is a project at 16th Street and 1st Avenue. That’s in the Walmart neighborhood — the first intersection west of Frontage Road, west of Highway 75, in front of Dairy Queen.
But, he says they’re also going to put in a new road to give people another way to get to the Walmart neighborhood from the north.
As far as the highway itself, Wynja says they know it’s a major artery in the area and the main access road for several businesses along the highway, so they plan to keep it open as much as possible. He says there will be a few times when they have to replace underground infrastructure that there may be detours in place for short periods of time, but for the most part, they plan to work on one side while keeping traffic on the other.
