Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man, who federal authorities say was an unlawful drug user, and who possessed more than a dozen guns stolen from a Sheldon gun store, has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison.
According to the US Attorney’s Office in Sioux City, 19-year-old Derrick Jager, of Sioux Center, received the prison term after pleading guilty this spring to one count of being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm.
Evidence at Jager’s detention, change of plea, and sentencing hearings revealed that Jager, who was an unlawful user of marijuana and cocaine, stole a dozen guns from a Sheldon licensed firearms dealer in three separate burglaries. Jager illegally disposed of these guns while also trafficking illegal drugs.
Jager was sentenced to 54 months’ imprisonment and ordered to pay $4,400 in restitution. He must also serve a 2-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Sources tell KIWA that the firearms in question were stolen from Den Hartog Firearms in Sheldon.
