Sioux Center Saddle Club, Sioux County Fair Board Continue Discussing Move To Old Airport

Sioux Center, Iowa — Plans continue to be discussed in regard to moving the Sioux County Fair out to the old Sioux Center airport near Carmel.

We had a chance to talk to Julie Schley with the Sioux Center Saddle Club, who is also a part of the deal, and she tells us more.

Schley says she’s also part of an agriculture leadership group that is being formed, that is discussing an expo building to be built on the site.

She tells us that timeline-wise, she’s pretty sure they won’t be able to use the facility until at least 2024. And, she says the City of Sioux Center seemed to be okay with that. According to Schley, the City told them that as long as there is movement toward relocating the fair, they won’t kick them out of their current location. Schley says the group are also planning another building that could be of interest to the horse community.

Schley says one of their main jobs has been changing people’s perceptions.

She tells us discussions are ongoing, and nothing has been set in stone yet, but the wheels are turning.
