Northwest Iowa — It costs more to rent cropland in Sioux County than in almost any other county in Iowa. That’s according to the most recent cash rent survey.
According to the latest report released by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, non-irrigated cropland cash rent averaged $256 per acre in Iowa during 2022, $23 higher than 2021.
Pasture rented for cash averaged $59.50 per acre, $1.50 above 2021.
Grundy County had the highest cash rent for non-irrigated cropland at $304 per acre, followed by Sioux County at $295 per acre. Ida, Black Hawk, and Bremer rounded out the top five. In the other three northwesternmost Iowa counties, the average Lyon County cash rent was reported as $269 per acre. In O’Brien County, it was $286, and in Osceola County, it was $241.
Davis County, at $154 per acre, had the lowest average cash rent for non-irrigated cropland. Sioux had the highest published pasture cash rent at $83 per acre, followed by Page and Shelby at $81 per acre. Louisa County had the lowest pasture cash rent at $28 per acre.
