Sioux County Man Pleads Not Guilty To Federal Firearms Charges For Rural Sheldon Theft

Sioux City, Iowa — A Sioux County man has been indicted by a grand jury and is accused of stealing firearms from an O’Brien County firearms dealer.

Federal court records indicate that Derrick Jager has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of Conspiracy to Possess a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Drug User, and two counts of Possession of a Stolen Firearm.

According to court records, Jager is accused of taking part in a conspiracy to steal twelve firearms from a firearms dealer in March or early April of this year. According to Wayne Den Hartog of Sheldon, the firearms were stolen from his place of business, Den Hartog Firearms, north of Sheldon.

Court records indicate that two of the firearms were subsequently recovered. A handgun was recovered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and a shotgun was recovered from Jager’s home.

The grand jury alleges that Jager bartered, sold, or disposed of a number of the firearms, or attempted to do so. The case also names a co-defendant — Maria Cade. She faces one count of possession of a stolen firearm and has also pleaded not guilty.

As of today, the trial in the federal case is set to begin on Monday, December 7th.
