Sioux County: New Speed Limit Signs On Order

Sioux County, Iowa — A law passed recently in Iowa changes the speed limit on many roads in the state.

The Sioux County Engineer’s Office and the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office are telling us that beginning July 1st, 2026, the speed limit on rural highways and county blacktop roads will increase from 55 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour. They want you to know that the speed limit does NOT change on gravel or dirt roads.  This change will require the Sioux County Engineer’s Office to replace and update numerous speed limit signs throughout the county.

They tell us the new signs have been ordered; however, it may take some time after July 1 for all signs to be installed. Motorists are advised that the new 60 mph speed limit will be in effect and enforced beginning July 1, even on roadways where speed limit signs have not yet been updated.

The Sioux County Engineer’s Office and Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tell us they appreciate the public’s cooperation during this transition.
