Sheldon, Iowa — Six students from Sheldon Middle School—Hannah Uhl, Mitchel Wolf, Alex Presthus, Madison Van Meeteren, Hunter Iedema, and Drew Theis—traveled to Ames on March 31 and April 1 to take part in the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa which was held at Hilton
Coliseum on the campus of Iowa State University. These students took their projects from the Sheldon Middle School Science Fair, which was held on November 17, 2015, made adjustments and improvements to their projects, and then displayed them at the State Science Fair. Each group presented their projects to different judges. At the end of the day on April 1, awards were handed out. Each of the Sheldon Middle School students each came home with an award of some sort. Below is a list of each of the students and the awards they earned.
Hannah Uhl: First place—Engineering Sciences in 8th Grade; First place—Engineering Sciences (grades 6-8); Grand Honorable Mention (for all of middle school competition); Nomination to compete in the Broadcom Masters competition (to compete in a national competition of science fair winners).
Michel Wolf and Alex Presthus: Third place—Plant Sciences in 8th grade
Madison Van Meeteren: Honorable mention—Chemistry in 8th grade; Special award from the US Metric Association
Hunter Iedema and Drew Theis: Honorable mention—Engineering Sciences in 8th grade
