Sheldon, Iowa — The Christmas season in Sheldon officially kicks off this weekend with Small Business Saturday, followed by the 2nd Annual Sheldon Parade of Lights.
Small Business Saturday is the day when you’re encouraged to shop your hometown businesses…the businesses owned by the people you see in church, the businesses who are the ones who donated to local causes, and the ones who employ your friends, neighbors and your family.
Many local Sheldon businesses will have expanded hours, and special prices on Small Business Saturday, as well.
Following Small Business Saturday, you can enjoy the 2nd Annual Sheldon Parade of Lights, which will include the 2nd Annual Jeep Parade sponsored by Ron Drenkow Motors and KIWA Radio.
The parade begins at 5:30 and will begin at the corner of 3rd Avenue and 11th Street (Sheldon Post Office corner), travel north on 3rd Avenue, then turn east on 8th Street and proceed to 6th Avenue. The parade will then go south on 6th Avenue, before turning west onto 9th Street and proceeding through the downtown area to the corner of 3rd Avenue and 9th Street, where the official route will end.
For those who wish to take part, there’s an optional, alternate route parade that begins where the regular parade ends. The alternate route leads north on 3rd Avenue to 8th Street, east on 8th Street for a block, before turning south on 4th Avenue to 9th Street. The alternate route will then proceed east on 9th Street to Washington Avenue where it will turn north to Elm Court, east for one block, then south on Garfield Avenue, passing on three sides of the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home. Then it’s east on 9th Street to Country Club Road, north on Country Club Road to East 6th Street, then west on 6th Street, past Fieldcrest, north on 19th Avenue, to Village Northwest Unlimited, where they’ll make the course around Village Circle, then back south on 18th Avenue to Oak Street, where they’ll turn west, passing Cobble Creek Assisted Living, continuing westbound to 6th Avenue, where they’ll head south, ending at 9th Street and 6th Avenue.
