“SmartHER Money” Program Available To Teach And Empower Women For Financial Literacy

Statewide Iowa — There’s a program in Iowa that’s designed to help specifically women with financial decisions.

Sonya Sellmeyer is a Consumer Advocate at the Iowa Insurance Division, which is in charge of what they call the SmartHER Money program. She tells us more.

That website address again is smartHER.iowa.gov. Sellmeyer says they do have some in-person programs, but the best way to get started is online at smartHER.iowa.gov.

Sellmeyer says she is also available to do in-person presentations.

She says the courses on the website are all free and are between eight and ten minutes long. Sellmeyer tells us it’s for women of all ages. She says there are many reasons to take the course — from the fact that you’re just starting out as a teen — to you’ve always wanted to know more — to maybe the loss of a spouse or companion who always took care of the financial side of things, and now you’re going to have to do it yourself. She says their goals are education and empowerment of Iowa women.
