Rock Rapids, Iowa — Northwest Iowa schools have had to take more snow days than they’d like to this winter. At least one area school has come up with a plan that would help in certain situations.
Central Lyon Superintendent David Ackerman fills us in on the situation.
He tells us one of the ideas they came up with to remedy a similar situation.
Ackerman says Central Lyon students currently have six days to make up — placing the last day of school on Friday, May 31st. At this point, if there are more snow days, it will put them into June. He tells us that as it stands now, they don’t plan to make school days longer or have school on Saturdays like other districts have done over the years to make up the lost time.
Ackerman says he’s also concerned about the future conditions of the gravel roads once all the snow melts. He says they may have to turn to their “hard-surfaced roads only” policy for that as well.
