Snow Forecast Friday And Friday Night; Maybe Brief Whiteouts

Northwest Iowa — There are no watches or warnings out, but snow could be an issue this afternoon and evening in northwest Iowa.

One of our area counties is in a Winter Weather Advisory. The National Weather Service tells us that Osceola County is under one until 9:00 tonight.

They say you can expect snowfall of up to two inches and winds gusting as high as 50 mph. They say to plan on slippery road conditions, with brief whiteout conditions expected.

They advise you to slow down and use caution while traveling.

In the Sheldon area, snow is also expected, with a northwest wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. They say it’s likely it will continue into tonight, (about a 70 percent chance) and should basically wrap up by about 8. Look for patchy blowing snow before 8 as well. It will continue to be blustery, with a northwest wind forecast at 15 to 25 mph decreasing to 5 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

This afternoon we could get an inch, with an additional half-inch or so tonight. Less snow is forecast for areas further west such as Lyon and Sioux counties.
