Northwest Iowa — A strong front will result in gusty winds as it moves through the region. This will likely result in blowing and drifting of snow and the potential for significant travel issues. Additionally, quickly falling temperatures behind the front could lead to a flash freeze of any wet pavement. Be sure to check the latest conditions and forecast if traveling today.
As a strong front works through the region today, an area of light snow is also expected. While snow amounts will remain light, the main concern will be the combination of strong winds and snow creating blowing and drifting snow. Periods of significantly reduced visibility are possible, along with drifting of snow that is already on the ground and still movable.
Dangerously cold air will work in to the region later today into Thursday. Overnight low temperatures will be well below zero and combined with elevated winds, wind chill values between -25 and -45 overnight into Thursday morning.
