Sometimes Wishes Do Come True

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon High School student/athlete who is battling cancer had her wish come true Tuesday night at half-time of the Orab basketball game.

Madison Uhl, who is a senior at Sheldon High School is battling a rare form of cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma, a cancer that most often occurs in and around the bones, and normally affects children and young adults. Tuesday evening, Mady’s wish to visit Hawaii was granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes for seriously ill children and teens.

Maggie Lloyd was one of Mady’s “wish granters”, and she tells us how the granting of Mady’s wish came about.

Many students in the Orab cheering section at Tuesday’s games had been asked to dress in Hawaiian attire, but weren’t told why.

Lloyd says Mady was shocked when she learned her wish had been granted.

Lloyd says the reason the granted wishes are so important is that it allows the family, as she put it, “time to breathe.”

Mady’s Make-A-Wish trip is planned for next summer, once school is out and her treatments are complete, according to Lloyd. She’ll be traveling to Hawaii with her sister, Hanna, and her mom and dad, Wendy Robinson and Todd Uhl.
