South O’Brien Student Receives Career Day Scholarship

O’Brien County, Iowa — A South O’Brien student has received a county scholarship.

According to O’Brien County Economic Development Director Kiana Johnson, this year’s O’Brien County Career Day Scholarship recipient is Avery Halverson, a senior at South O’Brien Community School District.

Johnson says that as we celebrate ten years of O’Brien County Career Day, it is especially meaningful to recognize a student who represents the talent and potential we see in our young people. She says Halverson stood out for her commitment, character, and connection to O’Brien County.

She says O’Brien County Economic Development Corporation, the Career Day Committee, and area employers worked hard to bring the 10th annual O’Brien County Career Day to four area school districts.

She tells us the mission of O’Brien County Career Day is to provide opportunities for high school students to learn about the vast variety of professional careers within the county borders and to encourage those students to return to the area after graduation.

Johnson says that to be eligible to receive the scholarship, students must be a current year senior or must have received a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma from a participating school within the past five years. Applicants must also be a resident or plan to become a resident of O’Brien County and/or be employed or self-employed in the county.
