Sioux Center, Iowa — Your chance to see some special athletes giving it their all is this Saturday, April 13th in Sioux Center.
The Special Olympics of Northwest Iowa Track and Field Spring Games have been moved indoors, and will be at the Dordt College Rec Center in Sioux Center.
We talked to Peg Koele from Hull with Special Olympics. She tells us what’s going on.
She says they even have some athletes in their 60’s. Koele tells us they have more than just walking and running events.
According to Koele, the event is free to the public.
She says there are even some unified relays in which someone from the community participates with a Special Olympian. She says volunteers from Dordt, Northwestern, Briar Cliff and volunteers from the Sioux Center and Hull area make it all possible. Again, opening ceremonies are at 9:30 a.m. in the DeWitt Gym at Dordt College.
